ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (Apr. 1, 2010) - Lexi Sarradet (Jr., Miami, Fla.) pitched her first no-hitter of the season Thursday night, defeating the Eckerd Tritons on the road 2-0.
When asked about her know hitter, Sarradet responded, "I really didn't know actually. My defense did a great job backing me up and Stephanie (Pallazolo) did a great job with my movement pitches behind the plate. Tomorrow we need to go out there and hit lights out and still play great defense."
Sarradet pitched a complete game shutout without allowing a run or a hit. She struck out five batters and only allowed a walk and a hit-by-pitch. She faced 25 batters in the game and only two were able to get in scoring position. It was Sarradet's first no hitter since Feb. 7, 2009 against Lynn. Sarradet's record is now 8-6 on the season.
Offensively, Rachel Talenfeld (Jr., Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) hit 2-for-4 and scored the first run of the game. Noemi Luciani (Sr., Miami, Fla.) and Jessica Hernandez (Sr., Miami, Fla.) both had multiple hit games as well.
For the fourth consecutive time, the Sharks (31-12, 9-4 SSC) put a run on the board in the opening inning. Luciani led off with a double to right center field followed by a bunt single from Talenfeld. Luciani was caught stealing but Talenfeld successfully stole her 14th base of the year. With two outs on the board, Hernandez earned her team-high 37th RBI of the year with a double to right center field.
The Sharks put their final run of the game on the board in the second inning. Brittney Lamb (Sr., West Palm Beach, Fla.) and Dana Bergner (Sr., Palm Harbour, Fla.) led off the inning with a single and a walk. Lamb was forced out at third base, but Bergner was driven home off of Luciani's single to center field. The Sharks did not need any more runs as Sarradet pitched her best game of the season.
The Sharks will continue their series with Eckerd on the road Friday, Apr. 2 in a double-header starting at 1 pm.
